Always Radiate Sunshine!!!
Sending a little 'Box of Sunshine' is always a BRIGHT Idea to send to your Missionary and very easy to do! You can fill it with a variety of Yellow, Orange, or Gold items - really anything that you think would 'BRIGHTEN' their day!
(Shopping Ideas Listed Below!)
Most of the boxes we mailed were 12X12X8 (Priority Mailing Box - Free from the US Post Office) which meant the flap size was just under 12X6 so you can simply cut one piece of 12X12 scrapbook paper in half for each flap. For the ‘Sunshine’ box we used one piece of Sugar Coated Chevron Cardstock from the Doodlebug Design Company in Bumblebee color and one piece of Sugar Coated Chevron Cardstock in Tangerine color also from the Doodlebug Design Company – both cut in half then trimmed to fit the box. We then printed off the MBM Printables onto photo paper, cut them out and attached with glue dots for durability.
We planned in advance to have both the Moms and Dads wear Yellow or Orange so that we could take a picture of us to include in with their Box of Sunshine!!! Do you think they even realized that?
You’ve Got Mail!!! One thing we have always included in all of our Missionary Box Mom Boxes was a personalized letter to each Missionary from each Mother. Inside our letters we included our testimonies, the reason we chose that particular item to include in the box, along with uplifting messages filled with love. For this box we weren't as structured about what we all chose to bring - it was more of a free for all with everything being orange or yellow - so you could just have a lot of fun with this box and include anything 'Sunny'! Many times over we all have received thank you letters from our Missionaries - but the things they thanked us all for the most was the letters that we included. It’s just a little piece of ‘Home’ in a box! So don’t forget to write!

Sunshine Box Quote Ideas:
Let the ‘Son’ shine through your heart.
Radiant: Glowing Brightly.
Here comes the Sun!
The glorious lamp of heaven, the radiant sun, is nature’s eyes.
This little light of mine ~ I’m gonna let it shine.
The futures so bright I gotta wear shades!
Kissed by the sun!
Give me sunshine on my shoulders!
Just let the sun in.You amaze me!
When we have hope, faith, and a positive perspective, we can do or become anything we want to. We can have happiness and joy in our futures because of our faith in the Savior, Jesus Christ. It doesn't matter how hard our trials and challenges are; all that matters is that we trust in Him, in His Atonement, and in the power it can have in our lives.
Only by giving are you able to receive more than you already have.
As we decided on each ‘Missionary Box Theme’, which we based around a scripture or missionary teaching idea, we would then brainstorm fun ideas that could be included in our box. With this 'Box' we definitely went a little bit crazy with our 'Yellow & Orange' ideas and I'm sure it was just as much fun for us to build it as it was for our missionaries to receive it! Depending on the size of the box you are sending – you could include or delete any of the following items – or come up with a few of your own. We tried to make sure that most of our items could be used to enhance missionary discussions, to be given away, to decorate their missionary apartments and left for future missionaries when they moved on, or simply eaten and enjoyed. But of course there were always a few that were just for fun!
The MBM 'Sunshine' kit includes 64 tags and quotes that can coordinate with ANY items you choose to include in your Sunshine box.
If you know you will be sending your Missionary a few boxes in the coming months – pick out your ‘Themes’ ahead of time and shop for more than one box at a time. You will be so surprised at what you can find on clearance as you make your way thru your regular shopping chores. Don’t forget to check out your local Dollar Store, Farm Store, Thrift Store, and One of a Kind Stores – they can be your biggest treasure troves! Some of our box items were found in the oddest most unlikely places - and they really made us giggle! Also, remember to pick up at least a few items in double for your missionary's companion! They need Momma love too!
